Higuain named the MLS Comeback Player of the Year

The Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain, who announced his retirement recently, has been named the 2022 MLS Comeback Player of the Year. "The MLS Comeback Player of the Year honors an MLS player who overcame injuries and/or adversity to achieve success during the 2022 regular season," said the league.

Gonzalo Higuain received an award to the MLS Comeback Player of the Year this Thursday. "I couldn't have had a better end to my career," said the Argentinian striker, who announced his retirement on 17th October after Inter Miami's elimination from the MLS play-offs.
The player assured that this award summarises his career in professional football: "Thank you to everybody who voted for me, this is a symbol of my career: fight, fight, and fight some more to achieve my goals."
Higuain beat out Jeremy Ebobisse from San Jose Earthquakes and Kei Kamara from Montreal in the voting. "The MLS Comeback Player of the Year honors an MLS player who overcame injuries and adversity to achieve success during the 2022 regular season. The award was voted on by MLS club technical staff, media, and current MLS players," said the MLS.
Higuain finished his last season with 14 goals after overcoming personal problems and an injury that kept him sidelined for weeks. The former Madrid or Juventus footballer finished the season with 16 goals in total and led Inter Miami to the play-offs for the first time in their brief MLS history.
