Mexico were knocked out of the Qatar World Cup in the group stages. It was Argentina and Poland who got through to the knock-outs and after that, manager Gerard Martino left. A player who did not go was striker Javier Hernandez 'Chicharito'.
The LA Galaxy striker broke his silence after the World Cup when being interviewed for '90minutos', and he spoke about the coach: "I thought I'd be at the World Cup. But because of the manager's choice, I didn't go and I have to respect that. I accepted the decision, but believe me, I did everything I could on and off the pitch to be considered".
"At the end of the day, that's how things are, only 26 players go and there are some who get left out, that's how it works", the former Real Madrid player said. Chicharito has not been called up for his country since September 2019, despite getting the MLS MVP award in 2022.
He then spoke about the 2026 World Cup, as it will be partly held in his country: "Of course I'm dreaming of playing it. You need a lot of things, the most important is to be physically fit. But the work and investments I do into time and work for my body, my mind, my emotions... why can't I be there?".
