Brazilian winger Antony dos Santos, on loan from Manchester United, said Wednesday in Florence, where Betis will play the second leg of the Conference League semifinals against Fiorentina on Thursday with a 2-1 lead from the first leg, that he wants to “write” his “name in the history” of this Spanish club.
“When I signed I wanted to make history. I'm happy to play in the semifinals with the Betis shirt and I'm physically and mentally prepared to live that moment,” said the Brazilian, who appeared before the press with his coach, Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, before training at the Artemio Franchi.
Antony commented that at Manchester United he also lived “very good moments”, but acknowledged that “in the general context at Betis” he is “happy and things are going well”, so they are “some of the best moments” of his life.
He added that Pellegrini “is a coach that everyone knows” and thanked him “for the confidence” that he offered him since his arrival, as well as highlighting that now “the dressing room is focused, eager to play and win”.
Asked if he would like to extend his contract with Betis, with whom he has a loan contract until the end of the current season, he said he does not know “what will happen in the end”, but reiterated that he is “very happy” at this club and “grateful for the affection of the fans from the first day”.
“In my head was to be better since I signed for Betis and that's what I'm doing,” said Antony, who also said that they must "go out smart, focused and for the game from the first minute" on Thursday.
