Kevin de Bruyne made his second Premier League appearance of the season in Manchester City's 2-3 win over Newcastle after the Belgian picked up a serious thigh injury in the domestic opener against Burnley, which kept him out of action for five months.
The Belgian midfielder barely needed time to show that his quality is still intact, scoring the equaliser just three minutes after coming on for Bernardo Silva. The former Wolfsburg man put the icing on the cake on his return to action by setting up Osxar Bobb in stoppage time for the Cityzens' youth product to score the winner.
Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola praised the impact of Kevin de Bruyne, labelling him a "legend" beloved of the fans and explaining that the reason for his absence from the starting XI was that he was not yet ready to play 90 minutes.
"He is a legend. I had the feeling he is not ready for 90 minutes after five months so we have that situation, impact in the last minutes. The goal and the assist, he is loved by our people and hopefully in the last months he can help us be there to the end," said the former Barcelona manager.
