Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Serbian international goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from MLS side New England Revolution.
'The Athletic' write that sources report the deal to be worth 16 million euros, with a further 2 million in bonuses. Widely regarded as the best keeper in the US league, the 23-year-old is expected to undergo his medical in the coming days.
The same outlet reported earlier in the summer that New England had turned away offers from French side Nantes as well as Premier League team Nottingham Forest, but this time Petrovic's push for the move plus the record fee saw the deal go through.
The Serbian signed in 2022 with the American side and established himself after Matt Turner left the States to join Arsenal. The Blues would be breaking their own record for most expensive MLS transfer for a keeper, after the English club paid Chicago Fire $10 million (with another $5 million in add-ons) for Gaga Slonina in the January window.
Although the Blues have already signed keeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton this summer, they lost starting goalie Kepa on loan to Real Madrid this season, with the Spaniard replacing the injured Thibaut Courtois. Petrovic becomes Chelsea's 10th signing of the summer.
