Gyokeres breaks Arsenal duck with rare headed goal

Viktor Gyokeres is off the mark for Arsenal, netting his first goal for the club in only his third appearance – and doing so with an unlikely weapon: his head.

The Swedish striker, more celebrated for his pace and finishing on the ground than for aerial dominance, rose above the Athletic defence to bury a superb header past Unai Simon in Sunday's friendly at the Emirates.
After goalless outings against Tottenham and Villarreal, Gyokeres had been eager to make his mark. He threatened the visitors several times before finally striking just after the half-hour.
The move began from a Declan Rice corner on the left, headed clear by a defender but recycled by Bukayo Saka, who teed up Martin Zubimendi.
The Spaniard wasted no time in whipping in a pinpoint cross from the right, which Gyokeres attacked at the near post, powering his header beyond the helpless keeper.
Remarkably, the forward scored no headed goals in league action last season, underlining the rarity of the finish. The Emirates crowd responded with a roar as Gyokeres wheeled away, punching the air before unveiling his trademark Bane mask celebration.
For Arsenal supporters, the hope is that this is just the first of many in red and white.
