The MLS announced on Thursday that Venezuelan player Josef Martinez (Atlanta United) was the winner of the goal of the year award. The Venezuelan striker won this prize after a spectacular overhead kick goal which he got back on 1st October in Atlanta's 2-1 defeat at New England Revolution.
The striker's quality has not gone unnoticed for European clubs. An example of that is Barcelona. According to 'The Athletic', the Catalans will reportedly try and get him if they can sell Depay in January.
Martinez is one of those goalscorers who loves scoring goals, but his clearest weakness is his ill-discipline. From the USA, they are reporting that the striker had a heated discussion with Mexican coach Gonzalo Pineda. Therefore, the coach decided not to renew himn.
It is worth remembering that the Venezuelan international was the best player and the top scorer in the MLS in the 2018 season. And now, after his cruciate ligament injury, the striker has got back to his best form.
