Messi and PSG reach verbal agreement

After rumours galore around a possible return to Barcelona, or even a move to Inter Miami, Messi will not be leaving for the Catalan side or the MLS. 'Le Parisien' have reported that the man from Rosario is going to extend his contract with PSG.
Messi's contract with the Parisian side was due to end on the 30th June 2023, which would mean he would be free to sign with anyone in January. The French club have ended up signing the beginnings of a deal with the player for him to stay another year.
'Sport' reported it before the French newspaper, and even claimed that both parties were discussing it during the World Cup. Messi's agent and father Jorge had a meeting with Nasser Al-Khelaifi in Doha, and they finalised the details.
It is worth remembering that it was Luis Campos who started the process to extend Messi's contract, and everything was basically agreed before the World Cup, when they came to the final agreements.
Therefore, PSG have been able to get ahead of Inter Miami and Barcelona, who were the two clubs most interested in having the 2022 World Cup's best player with them.
What is more, 'Sport' claimed that Joan Laporta had a plan to get the Argentine back, but he will end up having to remain Messi-less. It was a good move Paris, who are hoping Leo will officially sign his new contract at the start of next year.
On the other hand, Fabrizio Romano, an expert in the transfer markets, indicated that Messi never accepted Inter Miami's offer or even negotiated with Barcelona. What is more, the journalist confirmed 100% that the Argentinian accepted the contract extension after months of negotiations.
